What is cystic fibrosis?


Cystic fibrosis is a disease in which the chloride channels in the cells do not work properly. The whole body is affected, the most serious consequences being felt in the lungs where thick and sticky mucus can cause inflammation, frequent infections and progressive lung damage.  The digestive system is also affected where enzyme blockage can cause malabsorption of food resulting in poor nutrition.  That is an extremely simplistic explanation!  For more information, check out this link:
